From the Pulpit

Greetings all! In the effort to continue keeping things interesting, I thought it might be fun to randomly upload some sermon audio from some sermons of mine. For this first post, I’m uploading two sermons. What a deal!

Seriously, though, these two sermons are essentially “transitional” sermons. The first is my final sermon from my first pastorate. The second is my first sermon at my new pastorate. Allow me to share a few words on each:

The first sermon is going to feel more transitional than the second. This is due primarily to the fact that my new pastorate follows the lectionary. Therefore, there is less “here’s Nick!” and more “here’s Jesus.” That’s not to say that my final sermon at my previous church was in anyway to hold me up and Christ down, but you’ll notice a difference in atmosphere between the two churches.

Also, these sermons, especially the first, is preached for the specific purpose of it being a final sermon in a particular ministry context. While there are general applications for any context, you’ll pick up pretty quickly that the first sermon was preached for that church, in that context, in that time. There’s nothing wrong with that. We absolutely do not want to over contextualize and misuse the Scriptures, but that was not my intention or my goal with my final sermon there. My goal was to encourage them as they move forward in looking for a new pastor and what their focus should constantly remain on.

For the second sermon, my new church is currently in the season of Lent. To learn more about this season in the Christian Year, check out this post. Keeping the Lenten season in mind as we look at the text for that sermon is important, especially as we follow after Christ in his fasting and on the way to his passion.

Listen and Enjoy! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
